Grown Up Stuff

At Stuff By Rox, I like to keep things simple (so even I can understand them!) This page sets out the information I’m legally required to share with you about how your data is collected, used, and protected when you interact with my website. It’s the practical side of running an online shop - all that grown-up legal stuff.

Who Are We?

Usually I’d consider that a philosophical question, but in this legalese context, it means that this website is owned and operated by Stuff By Rox, and we’re based in Nottinghamshire, England, UK.

Our website address is www.stuffbyrox.co.uk but you already know that, because you’re already here!

My Work

Every Stuff By Rox piece is unique and handmade. Photographs represent the actual piece available — not a production version of it. Once a piece finds its forever home, it’s gone. I don’t reproduce designs.

Because every piece is made by hand, there may be tiny natural variations between a piece as photographed and as received. This is not a flaw — it is the nature of handcraft. If you have any concerns, please get in touch.

Purchasing

Online
Orders placed through the website are confirmed by email.
Because I also sell my wares at events, occasionally an item may have sold at an event and I’ll need to cancel your order.

In that instance, you have two straightforward options:

1)  I create a new piece especially for you inspired by the piece you missed out on.

2)  A full refund.

In Person
Purchases made at market events are subject to the same returns terms as online purchases. There is no disadvantage to buying in person.

Pricing

All my prices are shown in Pounds sterling.

As a small business, we don’t currently meet the threshold to be VAT registered.

Postage costs are shown at checkout for online orders.

Worldwide Orders

This used to be very simple; I used to be able to send my work anywhere… but now it’s much more complicated.

USA

The absolute shambles that are the import tariffs being thrown around like a jugglers’ balls often makes shipping to the US prohibitively expensive.  I’d love to send pieces to our friends across the pond, but in the current climate that’s really tricky.

If you’ve fallen in love with a piece, and  really would like to arrange shipping to the US, please get in contact with me, and we’ll see if we can get it sorted.  I think this is always best for US orders.

EU Member States & Northern Ireland

This is so much more complex and requires an explanation.  If you’re in a EU member state or Northern Ireland, I can’t ship to you.
This isn’t because I’m some frothing Brexit loon, but because legally, I can’t.
In December 2024, the GPSR rules came into place which means any product being sold into the EU or Northern Ireland needs to have an appointed person as a ‘compliance’ contact.  If you’re already in the EU, that’s fine, you can nominate yourself.

If you’re not – like me – you have to appoint someone in the EU to handle your product safety compliance.  And each product you make requires a new compliance document.

So, to sell into the EU and Northern Ireland, I’d have to get compliance certification and guidance for every single item I make – because I don’t mass produce, it’s an impossible task.

This applies whether an item has a cost, or even if it is free – so as the maker, I can’t even send my own pieces as a gift into the EU and Northern Ireland.

The only exception appears to be that if someone outside of the EU buys you a gift and they send it to you, then that is okay.

One small caveat is that if you’re outside the EU and you purchase an item and want it delivered into the EU, I cannot do that directly because the GPSR rules apply to the delivery address and not the location of the buyer.  I can only send pieces to non-EU countries.

These rules were designed to protect the EU from unsafe imports from the Far East, but throw up some weird exceptions.  For example, I could sell you a live goat, a genetically modified micro-organism or even an aircraft – but I can’t sell you an allergen-free one-of-a-kind silver pendant.

To give you an idea of the complexity of this and why it’s frustrating, works of art that are exempt include most paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures produced entirely by the artist and usually entirely by hand.  So, if I made a sculpture of a ring out of bronze, it’d be exempt. If I make a wearable ring out of bronze, it isn’t.  Same materials and technique, different rules.

So, I’d love to sell my lovely Stuff to the good people of the EU – but I can’t!

Returns

Our full returns policy applies to all purchases. Please see the Returns & Aftercare Promise page for complete details.

Commissions

I’m more than delighted to chat with you about Commissions.  How a commission works depends entirely on the scale of the task!

I’m always very clear that I don’t work on pieces that don’t fit my technique and style.  After all, you don’t get a plumber to fix your exhaust even though they’re both made with pipes!

So it’s always best to go to the right creator / jeweller for the job.  My pieces are always created by intuition and by feeling how the metal wants to behave.

A commission from me, means a piece made by me.

Smaller Commission

Rings, pendants, and similar pieces generally require no deposit.  You pay only when the piece is complete and you love it – after all, if you don’t love it, you won’t wear it.

If it isn’t right for you, it will find its forever home elsewhere. There’s no obligation and no awkwardness.  If you don’t like something or you want adjustments, please say.  If I can’t do something the way you want it, I’ll always be honest and say so.

Larger or Specialist Commissions

In circumstances where specialist materials need to be acquired, I will ask for a non-refundable deposit covering material costs before work begins.  This will always be discussed and agreed with you upfront before any commitment is made.

However, I do not charge for my time, but I will give you a quotation of what I think the item will cost.

I try to make the process as easy as possible, and I try my best to make sure commissions aren’t prohibitively expensive.

Design Process

As you’ve probably noticed, my design process is very fluid, and pieces often change during the creation process.  If you want something that is *exactly* the same as a drawing, I’m not going to be the right person for your piece.  I’d rather be honest about that than disappoint you and waste your time and money.

Stuff On The Website

All designs, photographs, and written content on stuffbyrox.co.uk (unless otherwise stated) remain the product of my fevered brain, and therefore belong to Stuff By Rox.
Please don’t reproduce them without permission — just ask, and I’ll usually say yes.
