Aftercare For Your Unique Piece

I adore making jewellery, and if you're here, you might even own a Stuff By Rox original. Your piece of jewellery is crafted to last, it's made from the best quality materials and with care, it'll outlive generations of us! Different materials need different types of care, so I've put together guidance for each one below. If you're unsure about any steps or just want to double check anything, don't be afraid to get in touch, I'm always here if you or your piece needs me.

Bronze

Bronze has been worked by human hands for over five thousand years. Every culture that shaped the ancient world knew this metal — its warmth, its strength, its beauty.

Bronze develops a natural patina over time as the copper in the alloy responds to air and moisture. This is not a flaw — it is the metal living. Ancient bronzes are treasured today precisely for the patina they developed over centuries.

If you wear a bronze piece and it makes green marks on you, this isn’t you reacting to the metal, but the metal reacting to you.  This is called verdigris – which historically meant Green of Greece.  This layer builds up on the jewellery and transfers to your skin.  This is the copper in the bronze.

Some people wear bronze bangles and bracelets to help with things like arthritis, so this copper transfer is considered a good thing.

People often think of Bronze as being a metallic reddy brown colour, when in reality, fully polished, Bronze is a beautiful rose-gold colour.  Whether you want to keep the piece to a high glowing shine or allow it to mellow with age is entirely up to you.  You can use mild soap and water to clean it or use the silver polishing cloth we gave you to clean the piece.  And don’t worry, no matter how black the cloth goes, it will still clean your piece, so don’t throw it away!

If your piece is at a stage of patina you love, then what you can do is apply something called Renaissance Wax with a soft cloth and buff gently.  This is museum-grade wax — the same used to protect ancient artefacts — will slow the natural patina and keep your piece looking its best.

Of course, if you don’t have any Renaissance wax, you can always come along to any event I’m at and I’ll wax the piece for you.

As with any jewellery, it’s always best to keep them away from harsh chemicals, perfumes, and chlorine.

Lunaesium

Lunaesium is my own creation — the name literally means silver bronze.  Luna was used in Alchemy to denote Silver (even using the crescent moon as the alchemical symbol) and ‘aes’ which is Latin for bronze.

This is a marriage of a sun metal and moon metal, combined and cast by hand.

The colours and patina you see in your piece have been created by a truly magical combination using the four classical elements – Earth (the mined metal), Air, Water and Fire.

The colours you see on your piece are not applied, painted, or treated – there’s no chemical treatment – they are a frozen moment of creation just using those four elements.

No two pieces can ever be the same.

Unlike Bronze or Silver, you shouldn’t polish the coloured surface or you risk removing the unique patina.

When a piece has been created, I apply a coat of Renaissance Wax.  This is an invisible, museum-grade wax that protects the surface and preserves the colours.

To keep your piece looking its best, reapply periodically, or whenever the surface looks a little dull.

I realise not everyone will have some Renaissance Wax at home, so you can always bring your treasure piece along to an event and I’ll apply another coat of wax for you.

As with any jewellery, keep your piece away from harsh chemicals, perfumes, and chlorine. Remove before swimming or bathing.

If the surface changes a little over time — this is the metal living its life alongside you. A gentle buff with Renaissance Wax will restore its lustre.

Your piece carries a moment of creation that can never be repeated. Treasure it.

Argentium Silver

Argentium silver contains a small amount of germanium — the element that gives it extraordinary tarnish resistance compared to traditional sterling silver. It will stay brighter for longer, naturally.

Oxidisation of Silver is completely normal, and nothing to worry about.  However, a quick polish with the Silver polishing cloth that we gave you when you acquired your piece is usually all you need.  For a deeper clean, warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid, rinsed thoroughly and dried completely, then buff and give a final polish with the silver cloth.

Avoid harsh chemicals, perfumes, and chlorine. Store in an airtight bag or box when not being worn to minimise exposure to air.

As always, if you need any help with this, you can always bring your Stuff By Rox piece along to an event I’m attending, and I’ll give your treasure a lovely polish.

Silver has always been the metal of the moon — reflective, luminous, enduring.
