The website Stuff By Rox wasn’t originally for jewellery at all. I also write stories (including a book of short stories on Amazon) and music. To gather all this… stuff… in one place, I chose the word Stuff.
Everything around us is stuff. Even the most precious diamond is just dense carbony stuff compressed into sparkly… stuff. People exchange money stuff for it.
Let’s be honest — 99.9% of this stuff isn’t that important. My jewellery won’t save a life, but it might bring joy and light into one. So instead of a pretentious name, it’s all just… stuff. Hopefully, it’s Precious Stuff, Beautiful Stuff that brings some shine and sparkle into the world.
Ultimately, it’s all Stuff By Rox.
Why Rox?
Well, that’s a different story. When I was younger (so much younger than today), I was in a band called Peroxide — named after my long peroxide‑blonde hair. Unsurprisingly, the music was rock‑inspired, so there’s a happy coincidence that Rocks and Rox ended up being a different kind of Rocks and Rox.
Back then, over twenty-five years ago – my username was Peroxide on a long-since extinct forum, and it got shortened to Rox.
I liked it, so I kept it for all my artistic endeavours ever since.
Over the years, my stall has been called Rox by Rox, Stuff by Roxy, Stuff by Roy… and plenty of other variations.
I even considered a name-change because I got some feedback that Stuff might be devaluing what I do.
However, I feel very wedded to it; it’s not pretentious or trying to be something it isn’t. At the end of the day, I’m not doing much more than making stuff.
There’s something quite special about creating jewellery and seeing people fall in love with your designs. It’s a creativity I adore and hope that I’ll be doing this for many years to come!
